Summary: Lodge 7 qt Dutch Oven, Dissaapointed with the pot and Lodge
Comment: I bought this Lodge 7qt Dutch Oven about a year and a half ago. I found it didn't clean up as easily as I thought it would, but decided to give it a chance. After cooking chili in it, as well as soups, stew, and a couple other dishes I started noticing pits developing in the enamel on the inner cooking surface. I have only used wooden and silicone utensils in it when cooking, and wash it by hand with a sponge and dish detergent, which by the way was sometimes quite difficult. I called Lodge after a seeing more of these pits develop since I was concerned with what is under the enamel not being the intended cooking surface, and to my utter surprise they told me it was nothing to be concerned with. Their customer service agent said they would only replace my Dutch Oven if a large piece of enamel broke free. I explained that I was concerned about health issues coming from bonding agents under the enamel and was told, I wouldn't worry about that if I were you. I hung up with the customer service person in disgust. Since that time I bought two LeCreuset Dutch Ovens, a 5qt. and a 7qt. I am thrilled with them. The are lighter, smoother, cook wonderfully, clean very easily and are obviously of much better quality. I wasted my money on this product, and after purchasing many Lodge products over the years I am done with Lodge for good. It is a shame that an American company puts its name on an imported item, then doesn't stand behind it, or their own name for that matter. My recommendations are not to buy any of the Lodge enamel cast iron line of products, save your money and add some to it when possible and buy a really great product from amazon.com, the LeCreuset dutch oven. You can even buy an aftermarket stainless steel replacement knob for the original that has their logo on it. This Lodge 7qt dutch oven will probably end up being an expensive planter. It is currently packed in a LeCreuset box laying in a closet.

Summary: Check it carefully for defects
Comment: Our pot had a lopsided bottom and would teeter back and forth on a burner or flat surface. I sent an eMail to Lodge and they replaced it at their cost. However the replacement is also defective. The bottom is flat but the top edge of the pot is not. Consequently the top rocks back and forth and leaves an open gap about the thickness of a round toothpick on one side or the other. The top also has blemishes in the enamel, like "fish eyes". We are tired of dealing with defective Made In China merchandise and haven't decided if we want to take a chance on another replacement or live with this one. Nevertheless, we only paid $74.99 for it on sale at Amazon so it is well worth the price but I would not pay full price for one.

Summary: Why Buy Le Creuset When You Can Have a Lodge?
Comment: I debated for awhile about getting a Le Creuset and just couldn't justify the price so I looked around and thought I'd take a chance on this Lodge Dutch Oven. I use it all of the time -- it makes the best soups ever! In the oven or on the stove, this is an amazing piece of kitchenware and I'm so glad I made this purchase! It's beautiful, it cooks beautifully, it washes out well and I like the form and function of the handle on the lid, and the side handles are well-designed to use with mitts.

Once I burned it a bit and called Lodge to ask what to do. They told me to put water in it and add a few tablespoons of bleach and let it sit. Much to my amazement, that did the trick and it looks new again!

Oh, and save the rubber holders that come with it. They are meant for storage. I threw mine out and then realized my mistake when I talked with Customer Service -- and they sent a new set of the holders to me at no charge!

Amazon sent this quickly with no shipping fees. Thanks, Amazon!

Summary: My new favorite in the kitchen
Comment: Had considered the Tramontina and the LeCreuset dutch ovens too, but decided on the Lodge because of its size (bigger than the Tramontina), color(loved the blue), my prior good experience with Lodge skillets, its metal handles/lid knob (which permitted it to be used in higher temps than the LeCreuset) and, of course, its price (about half the price of the LeCreuset). When it arrived, there were some problems with the finish - there were a couple of nicks in the enamel, so I sent it back. Amazon was great - No questions asked, didn't have to pay return shipping, and a replacement arrived within days. The replacement dutch oven was in great condition and has been a great success. I love cooking with it. Have made several stews/braised dishes already, and have nothing but good things to say. It's my new favorite in the kitchen.

Summary: Great Value
Comment: I orderd this piece and was told it would take 4-6 wks for delivery but it arrived 5 days later and that was with free super saving shipping. I've used it 4 times already and it was everything I was hoping for and more. I saved over $100 buying here instead of from Lodge's website and it was shipped for free. I don't know how Amazon does it but THANK YOU!!
